I am on the dog’s shit list. About a week ago my pup lacerated the pad on his hind paw while playing in the river. Since then we’ve had to keep him inside to rest it. To make matters worse, theres been a heat wave the past 3 days with temperatures scorching in the upper 90’s. And, I’ve been baking in a house with no air conditioning using an oven that is not insulated. On top of that, he knows the goodies I am baking are chocolate. “Chocolate” in canine translates to “things I will never get to taste.” He’s pissed. As I whip around the kitchen mixing batters, filling tins, and opening and closing the oven door, he glares at me, as if to say “What are you %$@#ing crazy?! It’s hotter than hell in here!!” I reply, “Yeah well, an addiction is an addiction. I must bake.” He scowls at me and returns to position his nose 1 inch from the front door knob. That’s when he unleashed his secret weapon on me- the whimper. A minute or two of that sweet little high-pitched puppy cry and he’s got me. Soon enough I was making up a batch of these popsicles for the fellow. One lick and I was forgiven.

They’re super easy to make and are a great treat for those really hot days. Since they’re frozen it actually takes ’em a little longer to eat. By that I mean it took Tide 5 seconds to eat one, rather that his normal treat-eating time of 1 millisecond.

Recipe

1 ice cube tray

about 14 baby carrots

peanut butter

water

Dip the baby carrots in a small amount of peanut butter and place one in each compartment of the ice cube tray. Fill with water and freeze.
